My name is Carmen Vera.
I'm a world traveler who writes about her experiences around the world and the people I encounter. I am a proud author of five works: British Men Destroyed My Life: The Travels of an American Gypsy, The Letter S, Before You, and Worthless Gold Coins by Kora Rae, and Grayspace. I am working on my 6th book, Try Thai, with details to be announced. A YouTube series will be following but has currently been put on hold due to COVID-19.
I am a vocalist with a love for music growing up. I am classically trained and have been singing for as long as I can remember. Music has always been a part of my life throughout my primary and upper education. I love being a musician and accompanying myself on the piano. It's always been my number one outlet and escape in my life. I always say it is my favorite distraction.
I am a college graduate with a degree in communications. I am en route to receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Communications pending 2022.
I am a student pilot with the goal of obtaining a private pilot license. I am very passionate about aviation. My father was in the Air Force, and I find much happiness to pass on his love for planes through my professional career. They say no one has ever collided with the sky.
I am familiar with acting and performing. I am no stranger to the art of drama and theater. I love being a part of Central Casting in Burbank, CA, and doing work for them part-time.
I am a very proud atheist who thinks separation of church and state is important. Atheism is a luxury that many of us cannot afford. We must speak against the evils of religion and learn to believe in ourselves instead of ancient bronze-age fairy tales.
I have been able to make a dream of mine come true. Since 2016 I began designing print shirts and accessories. It gives me pure satisfaction and happiness to see my ideas come to life. I have several lines including Carmen Vera by Carmen Vera--my "Petty wear", Carmen Vera Kids, and Hoe Airlines.
I am a humanist. I had a very positive upbringing with a father who was more than a role model. He was my hero. He passed in 2012 because of Parkinson's disease. In honor of his birthday each year, I launch charity projects to help those in need and to continue to share his compassion with the world. Our current project is Baseball for Thai Children. You can read more about it and donate on Gofundme. The link is available under "Humanist Projects". This, too, is currently on hold due to COVID-19.
I am a podcaster. My podcast supplements my book, Grayspace. I interview those who live their lives as well in the "gray space" or the "in-between". It is available on Spotify and iTunes, and again, most well-known podcast platforms. This has been a liberating experience to listen to those. Having peoples' stories shared shines a light on the tough times, and even the great times is a gentle reminder that we are different yet the same. My heart goes out to each and every person who interviews and the audience that listens. Search Grayspace: The Podcast to hear their stories.
All in all, I’m passionate about life and living it--and that is never-ending! When a mind is open, the world rushes in. I want to be a sponge that absorbs as much culture and knowledge. I seek to spread as much love and humor as possible. Through obstacles in my past, I truly know that everyone can be a light for humanity, even if it is a small one. It's all about what we bring to the table.
There are so many things in life that are mediocre. I personally believe that your career shouldn't be one of them. Do all the things you love and don't take no for an answer. Your happiness is much more rewarding than any and all else.
